Happenings /// Devil’s Night at Third Man with Olivia Jean

All of the leaves are crisping and turning, the eerie tubular bells of the Exorcist theme song are twinkling and pumpkins are finding new homes carved out for display on porches. It’s my favorite time of the year. Sipping cider and bourbon by the fire nightly while watching American Horror Story: Freak Show has been delightful, but I’m ready for something a little more…devilish. Fortunately, my second home at Third Man Records has come through with the ultimate ghoul-fest for Devil’s Night including a lineup of some of Nashville’s finest talent.

For those unfamiliar, Devil’s Night falls on October 30th, the night before Halloween and dates back to the early 1930’s. Sometimes referred to as “Mischief Night,” city kids would run rampant all night long, starting fires, TPing trees and houses and cause overall destruction and mayhem. Crime rate around this time was especially increasing in the Detroit-area during the 80’s with the amount of arsons on rise.

While Third Man’s party will stray away from acts of arson, one must try to prepare for the spooky spectacles and beware the bloodthirsty beings around every corner. In fact, last week 50 willing participants stopped by for the “Bleed for Olivia Jean” Blood Drive held by the American Red Cross in Third Man’s Blue Room to donate blood to cop advance tickets for the special night. In addition to paying by the pint, Olivia Jean‘s new album appropriately titled, Bathtub Love Killings, was gifted to participants in the form of lavender-colored vinyl. Miss Jean–expect more on her next week (hint, hint)–will be headlining the event alongside LS favorites JP5, Breast Massage and Weekend Babes. It should go without saying as for any Halloween bash, but don’t even think about showing up sans costume for this fright night as you will be promptly denied entry: ticket or no ticket.
