In our newest UnLocked Video session, we captured one of our favorite duos, Escondido, in the glorious book haven of East Nashville's East Side Story
It’s no secret that we absolutley love Escondido – the duo, comprising Jessica Maros and Tyler James – melds delicious melodies, glorious punk grit and a sensibility that often evokes the dusty, terracotta plains of the great southwest. On their newest record, Walking With a Stranger, they veered a little more towards the city than the desert, incorporating elements of nineties grunge and garage, dreamy acoustic folk and atmospheric British rock like Portishead into something thrilling and unique. There’s still that alt-country gauze that hangs over their lyrics, still the moody, sensual palate – but there’s also a new tension expressed in the two tracks they recorded for their UnLocked Session at East Nashville’s East Side Story, a wonderful local bookstore owned by our friend (and occasional L/S contributor) Chuck Beard. Watch “Try” and “Apartment,” below.
Thanks, as usual, to our friends at Made in Network. Watch the rest of our other UnLocked Sessions here.
