Happenings /// The 5 Spot’s Hurricane Sandy Benefit Show

As a New Yorker living in Nashville, I’ve been feeling strange waves of survivor’s guilt over the past few weeks. Thankfully, my family was all OK in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy – my sister displaced from her apartment and my mom virtually unaffected, so extremely lucky. But many friends were not so. Some, living in Red Hook, lost everything. Many are dealing with almost insurmountable damage, still pick up the pieces, digging out treasures from water-clogged closets, watching belongings float up to their neighbor’s porches or out and away.

The folks at the 5 Spot can relate – not only do many of the musicians that play there nightly come from areas impacted by Sandy, but they have family who are also displaced. So come out tonight for the East Nashville venue’s Rock n’ Roll benefit show: all proceeds will go to Sandy relief, and will include performances by Samantha Harlow (read her Nashville Five here) and Young Hines (read his q&a here). The full lineup is after the jump.

We’re spoiled as hell in this town when it comes to music – you can see amazing bands every night of the week for next to nothing. So please drop a few extra dollars either at the 5 Spot tonight or online if  you can’t make it out. Cover is 5 bucks, but you know you can spare a little more just this once.
