– How did your Record Store Day go? We snagged most everything we wanted despite a killer line at Grimey‘s, including 7″‘s from PUJOL, Karen Elson and Caitlin Rose. Big props to Grimey’s, Third Man and the Groove who all kept things moving along as quickly as they could without creating situations where 100 people were packed into one tent all grabbing at the same thing. No black-Friday Wall-mart scenarios here, just a damp day with fine music and many nice things to spend your money on. Didn’t make it out? Grimey’s still has some leftover special releases, including Ms. Rose’s and Oberhofer‘s 7″, last time we checked. And, naturally, the liquid-filled Jack White LP is on eBay.
-Hopefully you got to catch him at Record Store Day (where he played a short set that included new music from his June release The Way We Move) but Langhorne Slim has had to cancel his Wednesday night Music City Roots solo set for unstated reasons. All the more impetus to catch him on 6.9 at Mercy Lounge. Tickets here.
-CBS has a nice piece on The Black Keys.
-Did you get Fiona Apple tickets? If not, go here. Ms. Apple released a new track, “Every Single Night,” yesterday on her Facebook page. Take a listen.
–Taylor Swift might play Joni Mitchell.
– Check out the first cut from Marty Stuart’s new release “Nashville, Vol. 1:Tear the Woodpile Down.”
–Jack White reviews are rollin’ in, including this one in Spin. Steve Kandell says “Jack White has settled into Nashville and vice-versa; the record feels rooted in traditional American rock and soul and rhythm and blues without ever feeling like a civics lesson or a minstrel show.” Third man is posting a new video every day until Friday’s American Express Unstaged Jack White show, follow the jump to watch.
